Steve Phillips, chief executive of Welsh Rugby Union, has confirmed that a review will take place into Wales’ autumn campaign.

Pivac was to travel to France to see 2023 World Cup venues this week.

For the sake of efficiency, the coach decided to stay in Wales.

Phillips said that the WRU is ready to take action on the review’s conclusions, but stressed the need for a “proper procedure”.

Pivac’s future is not addressed in the statement. There are no details on who will conduct the inquiry, which is described by the author as a pre-planned and regular post tournament review.

The review will not be completed until Wales hosts Ireland in the Six Nations opener on February 4.

WRU’s decision to hire a coach who is not yet qualified would be costly. This comes at a crucial time for WRU, which is currently negotiating a new agreement with the four professional areas.

Phillips, first Georgian to lose in Cardiff (13-12) said that he was not disrespecting Georgia.

When they had a 21-point lead on Saturday, Wales seemed like they were going to respond. But they lost the game to Australia 39-34.

Phillips stated that they had been anticipating a significant improvement in Australia’s performance, but were disappointed to not win the game.

“We will now examine the Autumn Nation Series campaign in all its details and detail as we do every time.

“Upon conclusion of the review, we will of course act on the result as we continue to strive towards the short-term goal success at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the more immediate 2023 Six Nations competition and also long-term sustainability.”

Poor performances

After suffering three defeats in November and ending up in ninth place in the rankings, Wales ended 2022 in ninth position.

The humiliating loss to Georgia and the capitulation to Australia were followed by a 20-13 victory over Argentina.

In 2022, there were three wins and nine defeats. Pivac’s total Wales tenure was 13 wins, 20 losses, and a draw.

Pivac stated that he would like to continue in his role and will honor his contract until the end.
