The Welsh Rugby Union is currently conducting anti-doping investigations into an online image that appears it shows the WRU National Shield trophy, with lines of white powder substance.
Tonna RFC beat Crumlin 52-19, winning the Shield on the 30th April. The image was then posted to Snapchat.
WRU spokesperson stated that they were aware of the image, and will investigate according to our anti-doping guidelines.
Tonna RFC stated it was “shocked” and “concerned” by the content.
Tonna of League 3 West Central stated in a statement that the club would cooperate fully with any WRU investigation.
“None were aware of this photograph before and all are shocked by its apparent content,” said the statement.
“An urgent meeting of the management team was held at 10:00 this morning. Investigations have begun.”
“The Welsh Rugby Union has not yet contacted us regarding this matter. However, we will cooperate fully with any review they request.
“Tonna RFC does NOT condone the use of illegal substances in its clubhouse by its members, staff, or players.
“It has been a family-orientated community rugby team for many years, and the management committee is determined to keep it that way.”
