Beyond Good & Evil 2, still in pre-production after all these many years

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has seemingly been in development hell for years, and there doesn’t appear to be a finish line anywhere in sight.

Bloomberg reports that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still in pre-production after over five years of development. Rumblings of a Beyond Good & Evil sequel date all the way back to 2008, when Ubisoft showed off what seemed to be a teaser trailer for the game.

Nearly a decade later, the game was finally revealed at E3 2017. It looked like an incredibly ambitious project, promising a multi-planet world populated by dynamically-generated characters.

E3 2018 saw the long-awaited sequel return. It revealed a partnership with Joseph Gordon Levitt’s HitRecord. This production company allows community members and fans to help in project development. Collaborations were possible, allowing them to create music and artwork that could be used in the game. The game was last mentioned in July 2021 when Ubisoft stated that it was too early to talk about it. It is unknown when we will see the game again.

The original Beyond Good & Evil was released in 2003 for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. This action-adventure takes place in 2435 and features Jade and her uncle, a piglike creature called Pey’j. It was well received upon its release and got an HD rerelease in 2011.
