Bandai Namco is currently investigating a serious exploit that led to the temporary deactivation of the Dark Souls: Remastered PC PvP servers.
Reddit users, such as TripleBrownMeow, shared a Discord post in the Elden Ring Subreddit. It stated that hackers could exploit a Remote Code Execution (RCE), which allows them to run arbitrary code on their machines without permission.
These hackers could use the RCE exploit to “brick” your computer, “steal your banking information and logins stored on your computer,” and “execute malicious malware such as bitcoin miners.”
Also, it was suggested that this issue could have caused similar issues in FromSoftware’s next game Elden Ring.
Bandai Namco thanked Reddit posters and stated that the topic was “submitted to the relevant internal teams earlier today.” It also followed up by a TweetAn investigation was confirmed.
Dark Souls tweeted that the servers used for Dark Souls 3 Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls: Remastered were temporarily deactivated in order to allow them to investigate reports of an online service issue. “Servers to Dark Souls: PtDE is joining them soon. We regret this inconvenience. This downtime will not impact PvP servers on Xbox or PlayStation consoles.
