A notorious hacker has invaded Elden Ring players and soft-banned them for sport.
Malcolm Reynolds, a hacker from FromSoftware since Dark Souls 3 invades worlds before killing them with hacked spells that are virtually undefeatable.
However, the overwhelming power is not the problem. These spells, Kotaku reports add illegal items to the inventory of the defending player that were not intended for use in the development process.
Elden Ring discovers that the player who has been defeated is back in play and soft-bans it. This means they cannot play online with any other cheaters.
Reynolds stated that he was forcing players to digital exile to make FromSoftware a point. Kotaku was told that Reynolds wants to be caught. He calls himself a “necessary sin” and the developer should learn from it to develop better anti-cheat technology.
Reynolds, despite claiming that he is a noble cause has uploaded YouTube videos showing his killings, cheating and soft-banning, while laughing at his victims.
According to a Dark Souls 3 Reddit posting from six years back, Reynolds could infiltrate a game. The best thing to do is to either disconnect or close it or to commit suicide to avoid being attacked by him.
Reynolds is no surprise to make an appearance again considering his history with FromSoftware titles and Elden Ring’s popularity.
It has become a cultural phenomenon with bizarre adverts, Twitch chats from streamers while they sweep, and people using the Nintendo Switch’s Ringfit Controller to defeat their bosses. It even has its own candy.
