A PC mod was released for Final Fantasy 7 which increases the framerate to 60fps. The result is almost disturbingly smooth.
Mum: “Don’t worry dear. Smooth 60fps battles with FF7 aren’t possible and won’t harm you.

FFNx Modding Project is responsible for this buttery battle. This modding platform for Final Fantasy 7/8 aims to make the games look, feel and sound better on PC. The 60fps mod aims to make Final Fantasy 7’s 15fps PC version playable. It also includes cutscenes and dungeons. Even though it may seem disarming to watch such an old game run so well, it is an incredible achievement.
Be aware that this mod is still in beta. The team behind it is actively searching for bugs and fixing them. It is recommended that you use the original 1998 game version for this mod, but the Steam version can technically be used by FFNx. This mod is best for nostalgic fans of the original. However, Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s visuals may be a bit worse than the PS5 version.
We think the 2020 remake has given the series new life, while still being a great RPG. More episodes are on the way, hopefully soon.
