Mario Kart 9 Reportedly in Development, ‘With A New Twist’

A market analyst says Mario Kart 9 has a new racing twist and is currently in “active production”. It could be teased later this year.

The game is being speculated by Dr. Serkan Toto from Tokyo, an industry analyst. He wrote his predictions for Gamesindustry.biz for the coming year and stated that there would be a new entry to the popular racing series.

Toto stated that Mario Kart 9 might launch with a “new twist”. From Double Dash’s two-charcater Karts to Mario Kart 8’s antigravity sections, new Mario Kart games often include twists on karting.

Toto also predicted that Mario Kart 9 would be released in 2019. However, the analyst suggested that 2022 might be the year Nintendo releases another series for mobile devices. He stated that although Nintendo has been quiet on mobile since Mario Kart Tour’s launch, he believes that 2022 will be the year we see an IP reappear on smart devices.

Mario Kart 8 was officially named the most-sold racing game in US history last year. After selling more than 40 million units, the title combined sales of both the Wii U and Ninendo Switch Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and took pole position.
