Returnal receives a Free Update in Co-op Mode for Later This Month

At today’s State of Play, Returnal was announced. It will get a new update later in the month, which includes a major challenge and the ability for friends to play together.

Returnal’s Ascension update 3.0 is available on March 22, 2022. This update will feature both online campaign and survival modes called The Tower of Sisyphus.

The PlayStation Blog states that co-op mode is available through the Chronosis portal, near the crash landing, and other parts of the game. You have the option to host a coop game, join another one, or host and join a private game together. To keep them together, players will be tethered together. They can also revive one another if they get separated. Game progress is tied to the host.

The Tower of Sisyphus, an endless survival mode that allows you to climb higher and more difficult enemies, is basically an endless survival game. The Tower of Sisyphus culminates in a battle against Algos. Your scores will be recorded on a leaderboard. There is also new narrative content in the Tower.

The Tower of Sisyphus can’t be played in co-op. A few story moments, however, can only be performed solo. However, the majority of the game is available to play with a friend. This is a welcome help considering how difficult Returnal can be.

In our review, we loved Returnal’s gameplay, weapon selection, and punishing difficulty, calling it “an incredible roguelike, and one of Housemarque’s best games to date.”
