The news of a possible release date has been spread by the Nintendo Direct community following yesterday's Nintendo Drop of a New Splatoon 3 Trailer. But, it seems that this release date is fake.
A post on Reddit claiming that a QR Code can be found at the 55 second mark of the latest Splatoon movie trailer was removed. The QR code can be found in the UI in top left corner of screen. Although it is difficult to scan, the Reddit post suggests sharpening and improving the image to create a QR code that will reveal the release date for Splatoon 3. However, the ‘enhanced QR code' provided by the user does not match the one in this trailer.
Although the trailer appeared to fool some viewers, the thread was quickly retorted by visitors who noticed that the QR code offered up for download was not the same as the one in the trailer. This QR code appears to be a new one that is designed to redirect excited fans to a fake release page. The date is August 18, 2022. It's a Thursday, even though Nintendo games are typically released on Fridays.
The QR code used in the trailer's new trailer is identical to the one in the announcement trailer. You can see the code in UI elements around the 22-second mark. It seems that the ‘QR code” is a part of Splatoon 3 art, and not an Easter egg or hidden message.
You'll have to wait for Nintendo to confirm a release date. However, we do know it will be available this year.
