Square Enix revealed that a new strategy-tactical game called The DioField Chronicle will be released during the PlayStation State of Play.

The new tactics RPG is a 3D version of the traditional strategy genre. Watch the trailer below to see how the turn based strategy combat is combined for 3D animations.

The DioField Chronicle is set on a continent that has been ravaged by war. It follows the conflict between the Trovelt–Schoevian Empire, and the Rowetale Alliance. Between the feuding powers is the single Kingdom of Alletain.

According to PlayStation, The DioField Chronology uses a Real-Time Tactical Battle System. The development team includes Taiki, Kamikokuryo (FF12, 13, and Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones) Sound Composers.

Combat seems to be heavily based on strategy, with units moving across a battlefield. The 3D animated elements bring life to the gameplay. Large elements such as giant flying dragons and other large elements can be seen hovering above the battlefield, igniting fire at players and their enemies.

The new franchise is a good fit for Square Enix’s many RPGs in the tactics genre, but it is definitely more modern. The DioField Chronology will be released for PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4.
