Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi Teaser Reveals the Series’ Biggest Mystery

While the Obi-Wan Kenobi series won't be the first Star Wars project that sheds light on Obi-Wan’s time as a desert shemit, it is the most ambitious. Star Wars: Kenobi and Marvel's Star Wars comics never indicated Obi-Wan had left Tatooine in that period of 19 years. With the release of the teaser trailer, Obi-Wan's return to the galaxy is now confirmed.

What is Obi-Wan doing now? And how does this series relate to his ongoing mission of protecting a young Luke Skywalker. The teaser contains a key scene that may provide the answer.

Obi-Wan vs. The Sith Inquisitorius

This trailer is mainly about the Inquisitorius. They are the main antagonists in the series. The Inquisitors, originally introduced in Star Wars Rebels animated series, are Dark Side adepts who answer to Darth Vader. Their master has trained them to hunt down and eliminate Jedi who have survived the Clone Wars. You'll see both old and new Inquisitor characters throughout the series. There's the Grand Inquisitor (played in Rupert Friend), Fifth Brother(played in Sung Kang) as well as Moses Ingram's Third Sister/Reva character (more details to come).

This footage suggests that the Inquisitors may have spotted a Jedi hiding on Tatooine. Reva even interrogates a group of Mos Eisley residents, including Joel Edgerton's Owen Lars. Although it doesn't seem like she has narrowed in on Owen to be a potential Jedi Knight, she is clearly too close to discovering the identity of Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan is here to help.

This series' biggest question has been, to this point, why Obi-Wan would leave Tatooine. Why would you take such a big risk? Is there something or someone that can call him to action? How can you get him out of hiding and put him up against Darth Vader without disrupting the continuity of the films?

Now we know what motivates him to take action. Obi-Wan is expected to do something that will draw unwanted attention from the Empire early in the series. Obi-Wan won't have any choice but to leave Tatooine to create a trail for his enemy, with the Inquisitors following him. He should sacrifice himself rather than risk Luke falling under the Empire's control before he is old enough to use his lightsaber.

Obi-Wan must pull off the ultimate trick. He must lure the Inquisitors from Tatooine and give them a hunt. Then, he needs to make sure they don't return later to the desert planet. This could mean that he fakes his death. Master Kenobi clearly has a lot of work ahead of him.

Who is the Inquisitor Reva, and Why Are They Important?

The series will feature many members of the Sith Inquisitorius but it seems that Ingram's character Reva is the central antagonist, at least until Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader enters the picture.

StarWars.com reports Reva has been promoted to the rank of Third sister. We get the impression that Reva is a recent recruit because of the way the Grand Inspector seems to be lecturing Reva about Jedi Knights. It's possible that Reva was recruited to fill in for Second Sister following the conclusion of Jedi: Fallen Order. Obi-Wan Kenobi occurs approximately ten-years after Episode III, and five-years after Fallen Order.

This character is being given a civilian name for the first time. While the Inquisitors may have lived different lives before becoming Darth Vader’s pawns they are now destined to be just as dead and buried with Vader's Anakin Starwalker identity. Why is Third Sister given a name, then? This is a hint that she hasn’t been completely corrupted yet by the Inquisitorius.

Reva might be hunting Obi-Wan to test her abilities as an Inquisitor. That would explain why Reva seems so obsessed in the trailer. Does she look like Kylo Ren or a fallen Jedi that overcompensates because they aren’t 100% committed the Dark Side? Obi-Wan may be able pull her out from darkness as a small gesture of atonement to all the Jedi that he failed during Clone Wars. Reva should hope that Second Sister doesn't suffer the same fate.
