Boston Red Sox placed RHP Kaleb Ort on a restricted list, recall Jarren Duran

TORONTO — The Boston Red Sox Right-handed pitcher Kaleb Ort Friday’s restricted list and Jarren Duran, Triple-A Worcester outfielder, were recalled.

Canadian law prohibits foreign nationals not vaccinated against COVID-19, from entering Canada. It expires Saturday, first day of October.

Unvaccinated players in baseball have been placed on the restricted roster throughout the season. They are not paid and don’t accrue major league service.

Alex Cora, Red Sox manager said Ort would join Toronto’s Red Sox on Saturday. He didn’t know what the corresponding roster move was.

Cora stated, “We’ll make decisions based on where are at pitching-wise and how we feel about using guys for the remainder of the season.”

Ort is 1-2 with a 6.26 ERA over 24 games. He has only one save in his two chances.

This season, 46 players used the restricted list 48 times. The Boston right-hander was the most frequent. Tanner Houck And Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Brooks Raley Each missed two trips to Canada. Houck is currently injured due to a sore lower-back.

Duran decided to get vaccinated in June after missing three games in Toronto.

Kansas City had 10 players absent from a Toronto series that was played just before the All-Star break, which was a league record. This group comprised Whit MerrifieldHe was later vaccinated, and was traded to Toronto by the deadline.

Baltimore outfielder Anthony Santander Left-hander Keegan Akin After missing a series in Canada, the Orioles brought complete rosters to Toronto. They were also vaccinated. Toronto was able to receive complete rosters of the Orioles for series in August/September.

This season, the Astros, Rangers, and Yankees all brought their full vaccined rosters to Toronto. New York was the only city to make three trips to Toronto. Texas and Houston were each there once.

To meet US entry requirements, all Blue Jays players and staff had to be vaccinated throughout the season.
