Scotland’s men are now in the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens, where they defeated Tonga and Malaysia in Coventry.

To qualify for the medal matches, England’s women’s and men’s teams will have to work hard.

After falling to Canada on the opening night, Wales’ men must beat Fiji to advance, while Scotland’s men have to face South Africa in a pool decider.

Sunday evening will see the decision on the women’s and men’s medals.

There are 16 men’s and eight women’s teams participating, with 24 games played in two sessions on the first day.

After Ellie Boatman’s four tries in the first half of England’s 57-0 win over Sri Lanka, it had looked promising for England’s women. However, Canada lost 26-19.

After two wins, New Zealand is now top of Pool A. This includes a 60-0 victory over Sri Lanka in evening session. It also included six attempts for Michaela Blyde.

England plays New Zealand Saturday morning. Canada faces Sri Lanka on Saturday to determine if Canada will join the Kiwis in semi-finals.

Fiji and Australia are qualified for the fourth round of Pool B. Fiji won two games and Australia also won. South Africa and Scotland both lost to South Africa in two.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday night.

After heavy losses in the opening session, England and Wales’ hopes of reaching the quarterfinals have been shattered.

England lost 34-0 to Samoa, and Sri Lanka won 47-19. England must now defeat New Zealand on Saturday, and hopefully Samoa will lose to Sri Lanka.

In Pool C, Wales lost 31-0 against Canada, before beating Zambia 38-5. Now, Fiji, coached by Ben Gollings, must beat Fiji, while Canada hopes to defeat Zambia.

South Africa and Scotland are now in the quarter-finals of Pool A, having defeated Tonga 41-0 et Malysia 50-12.

Pool D: Australia’s centre Samu Kerevi scored three runs in the 62-0 win against Jamaica.

After a draw of 12-12 with Uganda, Australia almost became the victim of shock.
