Jacksonville Jaguars’ Sponsor sues for breach of contract following Urban Meyer’s firing

JACKSONVILLE FL. — A Georgia roofing contractor is suing Jacksonville JaguarsA team member claimed a breach of contract after the team refused to let it cancel its sponsorship deal following Urban Meyer's firing.

RoofClaim.com also claimed that it doesn’t want its company associated with Sunday’s home game against The. Indianapolis ColtsDue to social media movements of disgruntled Jaguars owners Shad Khan fans planning to wear clown attires to the game.

On Thursday, the lawsuit was filed in Duval County circuit court seeking damages in excess of $30,000 It had previously signed a sponsorship agreement with Jaguars for a period of four years in which it was willing to pay $2.51 Million. Already $300,000.

Florida Times-Union newspaper reported the first lawsuit. It claims that the defendant violated contract because it did not provide full marketing scope throughout the regular season. Even if it provided these marketing opportunities to RoofClaim.com's brand, the defendant created a toxic environment that has made RoofClaim.com less attractive.

A Jaguars spokesperson stated that they had received the complaint but that it was “baseless and without merit” and that it was inconsistent with the terms RoofClaim.com agreed to in its sponsorship agreement. We will protect our interests in this matter fully at all costs.

RoofClaim.com claimed Meyer was its primary interest in a sponsorship agreement and that any deal would have to be tied back to Meyer's tenure. RoofClaim.com allegedly met Meyer on Dec. 16 and stated that it wanted to terminate the sponsorship deal because of the damage that any further affiliation would cause to RoofClaim.com.

However, Meyer's firing before the end 3rd year is not covered by the sponsorship agreement. RoofClaim.com attorneys attached a copy to the lawsuit.

RoofClaim.com can terminate the agreement if Meyer stops being the head coach during the third year of the agreement (which begins after the 2023 season), and March 1, 2024. This is done by giving written notice to Jaguars within 30 calendar days of Meyer's announcement that Meyer will no longer be the coach.

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial.
