Premiership Rugby appoints Martyn Philipps as chief government

Martyn Philips was chief executive officer of the Welsh Rugby Union. He also has industrial expertise.

Martyn Phillips, former Welsh Rugby Union chief government, has been elected as the chair of Premiership Rugby. He succeeds Andy Higginson.

Higginson, who had been with the publication since December 2019, was responsible for the Covid-19 response to the pandemic.

Phillips’ appointment follows Simon Massie Taylor’s final month as Premiership CEO.

Last December, Nigel Melville was appointed chair of Membership Buyers Group.

Phillips stated that there is a viable alternative for Premiership Rugby in order to continue to develop the event’s industrial rights to its full potential.

“I am very excited about the new position and will continue to work with Simon, his staff, the house owners, traders and golf equipment owners through the years.”
