Following the resignation of Paul Maurice, Lowry served as interim head coach for the Jets during most of last year. Lowry was appointed interim head coach on Dec. 17, and went 26-22-6 in his first season. Lowry was an assistant coach at Winnipeg before taking over as the head coach.

Lowry also served as an assistant in Los Angeles and Calgary, as well as stints as a head coaches with three teams in the Western Hockey League.
Lowry was a NHL player for 19 seasons, including in Vancouver, Calgary, St. Louis and San Jose.
The Kraken had 60 points in their first season, a record of 27-49-6 and last place in the Pacific Division.
