ORLANDO FL — The Brooklyn NetsWe don’t know when exactly. Ben SimmonsAs he continues to recover from a back injury, he will not be able to make the season debut. But coach Steve Nash indicated after Tuesday’s shootaround he had “extremely high hope that we’ll get him in regular season.”
Nash said, “He’s just doing rehab, strengthening.” “We are still doing that side of the things instead of court work right now.”
Simmons’ status uncertainty is drawing more attention because the Nets only have 14 regular-season games left. Simmons, who was acquired last month at the trade deadline from the Nets, has also been acquired by the Philadelphia 76ersHe hasn’t been cleared to practice. Nash believed that it was simply a soreness from Simmons’ absence during the season. But, as Simmons has not been able to play since February, the issue has grown more serious. Simmons didn’t accompany the Nets to Orlando.
Nash stated, “The greatest thing we’ve tried is to have him participate in everything.” The only problem is that traveling can sometimes be costly. He should be with us in every meeting, walkthrough, film session, or whatever, so that he is always around the group. While we would love to see him travel and be there with the team, that is not the only option. We have to consider all options.
Simmons joined the Nets in Philadelphia last week. Nash stated that Simmons has been attending the meetings when he is with the team, but acknowledged that it will take more time to get into a rhythm once Simmons actually starts practicing again.
Nash stated, “I believe he has an a fairly good understanding.” “Now, his focus has not been on learning what is being done, but it’s been about getting better. While we’ve been there for him, we want him learning. But, it’s hard to keep your eyes on the ball when you’re trying desperately to make it to the top.
“I don’t expect him fully to know what we’re doing. Part of that is feeling; getting out there, and seeing how it works. I believe he will be a great fit with our guys. Some of this stuff involves getting out there and actually doing it, rather than learning from notes.
Veteran guard Goran DragicHe acknowledged that Simmons’ situation is complicated, but he is trying to keep his eyes on the fact that Simmons will be fit and ready to play once he is. This is a team that has won three straight games and is currently in eighth place in Eastern Conference.
Dragic said, “It is tough.” “But at the exact same time, we all know how to play basketball. All of us know how to play basketball. You do need to take some time to get up on the court and learn those skills. But, I look at it this: He’s not actually playing, and then we can find our rhythm. [we]Can’t wait until he comes back.
“Because then, you get another weapon. Another defender. Another rebounder. So it’s going be even better. We are sure he will do well and be there to assist us.
