Ireland scored eight tries in their 2022 Under-20 Six Nations win against Wales at Musgrave Park.

Chay Mullins (Matthew Devine) and Mark Morrissey won the first-half for their dominant hosts.

Reuben Crothers scored Ireland’s bonus-point attempt in the second period.

James McNabney and Mullins scored further, as did James McCormick, James McCormick, and Ben Brownlee. Oli Andrew claimed a late attempt for Wales.

Charlie Tector’s penalty made Ireland ahead before the first try. It was scored from a scrum with sharp handling that allowed Bristol wing Mullins cross close to the corner flag.

The cause of Wales was further complicated when Oli Andrew was given a yellow card. Ireland swiftly made the 14 men responsible.

Ireland won the Welsh 22 lineout ball with a scrappy play, but it did not matter that Devine’s sidestep got him past Joe Cowell to make it over for the second attempt. Tector scored an additional two points.

Mullins thought that he had a second chance, but the TMO ruled – rather harshly – that McCormick had obstructed Welsh tackler.

Ireland scored again in a matter of minutes, as they surged upfield. Morrissey scored from close range, and Tector converted.

The second half started in a similar manner. Skipper Crothers drove up from close range, with Tector adding more. McNabney followed the lead after a driving maul.

Lock Joe Peard was punished for a series of Welsh infractions and sent to the sinbin. Irish dominance continued with Mullins running his second score.

McCormick was called to play after another driving match. Conor O’Tighearnaigh, however, was not allowed to score due the tackle of the ball.

Wales responded in the closing moments, with wing Andrew running impressively from just outside of the Irish 22.

Ireland was victorious as Brownlee’s power took Brownlee over. Tony Butler converted the last kick.
