According to reports, the 2023 Call of Duty annual release has been delayed into 2024.
Bloomberg reports that sources close to the situation claim that the executives in charge of Call of Duty have taken the decision to stop releasing Call of Duty’s annual releases too quickly. According to reports, the decision was not related to the recent Microsoft purchase of publisher. The 2022 Call of Duty release is still on schedule.
Call of Duty: Vanguard was the most recent entry, having been released against Battlefield 2042 during the holiday season and Call of Duty: Warzone. An earlier report stated that Vanguard’s sales suffered due to players feeling tired from Call of Duty’s continuous release schedule, making them less likely to purchase a new entry every other year.
Call of Duty has always been a big moneymaker in gaming. Its annual Call of Duty release is a huge success. It usually tops the US sales charts at launch and remains in the top 10 year-round. Activision has reportedly begun to work on other projects to plug the massive gap in sales. These include ongoing content for Call of Duty 2022 release, and an unannounced new free-to-play online title.
This could mean that Call of Duty gamers on PlayStation will be able to continue playing the series on their preferred console for a while longer. Microsoft has reportedly stated it plans to release the next three Call of Duty games (Call of Duty 2022 and Warzone 2) on all platforms after acquisition.
