CHICAGO — Cubs Placed left-hander Wade Miley A left shoulder strain is listed on the Sunday 15-day Injured List
Miley was also unable to start the season due to left elbow inflammation. He is now 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA after three starts with Chicago.
Miley, who is 35 years old, hasn’t pitched in six innings of three run ball since May 22 when he won a 5-4 game against Arizona. The IL decision was retroactive to Thursday.
Manager David Ross stated that he doesn’t believe it is that significant. “I believe he will be back soon. “I’m not worried too much.”
Mark Leiter Jr., right-hander was recalled to Triple-A Iowa. Leiter is 0-1 this year with a 6.57 ERA in five appearances, three of which were starts.
The Cubs also had relievers Chris Martin prior to their series finale against the crosstown White Sox. On Sunday, no similar move was made.
The Cubs are in a tight spot due to the absences Miley and Martin. They have doubleheaders Monday against Milwaukee and Saturday against St. Louis. They won’t be able to take off another day until June 6.
Ross replied, “Yeah. There’s a lot of innings,” “We have some guys injured. We should do our best to cover them and map them as well as the locations of the guys.
